CIT-Chemical Engineering Class of 2009 Plant Designs

Chemical engineering is the branch of engineering that deals with the application of physical science with mathematics, to the process of converting raw materials or chemicals into more useful or valuable forms.

In addition to producing useful materials, chemical engineering is also concerned with pioneering valuable new materials and techniques, an important form of research and development.

In partial fulfillment of the Chemical Engineering Plant Design Course, this year, the Cebu Institute of Technology Class of 2009 will be having the oral defense of their Chemical Eningineering Plant Design.

The instructor of the course is Dr. Virgilio Y. Abellana, who was a Magna Cum Laude graduate of CIT-ChE and both obtained his Master's Degree in Metallurgical Eng'g and Doctorate Degree in Materials Science Eng'g at University of the Philippines-Diliman.

The topics of the 6 groups that will be having the defense this last week of February 2009 are the following:

1. Polyaniline Pigment for Coatings Against Corrosion
(C. Panimdim, V. Labrador, J. Benabente, A. Cabagnot, F. Mandal)

2. Bamboo-Reinforced Tiles Production from Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate Plastics
(M. Panares, A. Panilag, M. Alcoseba, D. Itchon, H. Caracena)

3. Pelletized Phenolic Thermosetting Plastics Production Based on the Synthesis of Agathis Philippinensis Resin and Coconut Shell Powder
(K. Racoma, N. Reyes, C. Repollo, J. Manayaga, C. Magtibay)

4. L-carrota Probiotic Drink Production Utilizing Lacto Bacillus Plantarum Bacteria
(M. Lapiz, V. Selloria, N. Emboy, K. Sabrido, N. Sinahan)

5. Modified Synthesis of Liquid Urea
(E. Diotay, F. Mira, D. Castro, M. Avergonzado, G. Damalerio)

6. Polylactic Acid (PLA) Production Plant
(B. Rubion, B. Cabarles, M. Bahan, I. Enriquez)

God Bless and Good Luck!
